On fleetingness

On the pricelessness of temporary things.

We spend a great deal of effort chasing light.

But every so often, the light finds you.

As we crossed a bridge over the koi pond, a cloud shifted and a single ray threaded through the maples and caught the path and us. It only lasted for a moment, then it was gone.

It’s easy to celebrate longevity, but fleetingness has a way of giving certain things more meaning than all the time in the world ever could.
